ILR is giving every Idaho team an opportunity to tell our readers a bit about their 2011 campaign. We kicked off our 2011 Season Recap Series™ last week with the University of Idaho Vandals. Now the series continues with a word from Co-Head Coach Paul Rocchio of the BSU Broncos. Take it away, Coach!
Boise State Lacrosse had a good season in 2011, and one that we hope has laid the groundwork for great things to come. 2011 was a year of firsts and bests for Boise State Lacrosse having gone 5 and 7 in the regular season against one of the toughest schedules in the country, which included an opening season game against eventually National Champion BYU.
This was the best regular season in Boise State’s MCLA Division I history, and we hosted our first PNCLL playoff game. Although beating Idaho two weeks in a row proved to be a difficult task, the regular season victory over Idaho was a great offensive effort and the best this team has played on that side of the ball.
Five players were named all league this year, four of whom were named 2nd team all league players. With perennial powers Oregon and Simon Fraser having some of the best players in the country on their squads it is quite an accomplishment to have 2nd team all league players. This group was led defensively by Josh Rude (D) and Kevin Kaup (G), and offensively by Jake Christensen, a Senior Midfielder who played consistently well all year. Jon Mundy (M) and Leland McClusky (D) also joined this group of All PNCLL-players.
Boise State will announce its incoming class on July 1st, but this group includes players from AZ, CA, OR, WA, CO, and UT. Boise State Lacrosse enjoyed a great deal of support from family, friends, alumni, boosters, the Boise State Campus and the Boise community this year and we thank everyone for that support. The 2012 season can’t come soon enough as we look to be significantly better yet again, and are putting together a top 25 schedule as well.
Thanks, Coach! We’re still looking for a season recap from most of the teams in the State. If you’d like to write something up, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
